Privacy Policy
Last updated 10 August 2026
The short version. Clearing has no accounts and no login. Your quit date, check-ins, journal notes and craving history are stored only on your phone and are never uploaded to us. We collect anonymous usage statistics, which never include anything you have typed, and you can switch them off in Settings.
Who we are
Clearing ("we", "us") is a mobile application that helps people quit nicotine. For privacy questions, including any request to exercise the rights described below, contact vikukpost@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
The following is written to your phone's local storage and is never transmitted to us:
- Your quit date and time
- What you are quitting, how much you used, and what it cost
- Your stated reason for quitting
- Your display name, if you entered one
- Daily check-ins and every journal note you write
- Your craving log, including intensity and trigger tags
- Slip and reset history
Because this data never reaches us, we cannot read it, recover it, or hand it to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes it. "Erase all data" in Settings deletes it immediately.
What we do collect
Anonymous usage analytics
We use Mixpanel to understand which parts of the app get used, so we can improve them. These events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device — not to your name, email, phone number, or advertising ID.
| We record | We never record |
|---|---|
| That a screen or step was reached; whether a craving ended in resisting or slipping; which tool was used; which mood a day was marked with; broad ranges such as "2–5 units per day"; your chosen currency and product type; your platform. | Your reason for quitting; any journal note; your name; your exact quit date; your email or phone number; your location; your contacts; any advertising identifier. |
We instruct Mixpanel not to derive location from your network request. You can turn analytics off entirely under Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data. The app works identically with it off.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. We never see or store your card details. RevenueCat receives a random anonymous identifier and your purchase status, not your identity.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled entirely on your device by your phone's operating system. No server is involved and we are not told whether one was delivered or opened.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only processors involved are:
| Processor | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Mixpanel | Anonymous product analytics | Event names and non-identifying properties, tied to a random device identifier |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status | A random anonymous identifier and your purchase state |
| Apple / Google | Payment processing and app distribution | Whatever their own terms specify; we receive no payment details |
We may disclose information if legally compelled to. In practice we hold almost nothing that could identify you.
Health information
What you record in Clearing concerns your health. We have designed the app so that this information stays under your control: it is stored locally, it is never uploaded, and the free-text you write is explicitly excluded from analytics. Clearing is not a medical device, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and its wellness milestones are general encouragement rather than medical advice. Speak to a healthcare professional about quitting if you need clinical support.
Children
Clearing is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
How long we keep things
On-device data lives until you delete it or remove the app. Analytics events are retained by Mixpanel under our account's retention settings and are not linked to an identifiable person. Purchase records are retained by RevenueCat and the app stores as their terms require.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and the CCPA — you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to it.
For on-device data you can exercise all of these directly: view it in the app, edit it in Settings, or erase it with "Erase all data". For analytics, contact vikukpost@gmail.com and we will delete the events associated with your device identifier where we can locate them. Because the identifier is random and unlinked to you, you may need to provide it from the app for us to find the records.
Our legal basis for analytics is legitimate interest in improving the product, and you may withdraw it at any time using the in-app toggle. Our legal basis for purchase processing is performance of a contract.
International transfers
Mixpanel data is sent to their EU endpoint. Other processors may store data outside your country under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will say so in the app.
